The Association of American Railroads’ (AAR) Hazardous Materials Shipping Descriptions (Hazmat) and Emergency Response Data Base allows system administrators to maintain hazardous materials’ regulatory and emergency response information. This data allows railroads to create accurate shipping papers for hazardous materials. It helps to validate EDI transactions received from connecting carriers and customers. The information in the Hazmat/Emergency Response System is now maintained via a web based application hosted by Railinc, replacing the previous mainframe system.
